Finally, a chance for West Coast riders to learn the “Neo-Alpine” techniques we’ve been teaching in the Appalachians for ten years ...and a great vacation opportunity for our faithful East Coast patrons!

We’ll begin in the sunny beach town of Ventura, on the extreme northern edge of the SoCal megalopolis, then quickly dispatch the traffic for a climb into Los Padres National Forest. Expect a roller coaster first day ride of about 225 miles*, twisting along through oil and cattle country, before returning to the sea at Morro Bay.

On the second morning, we’ll practice our braking skills on a slow but spectacular decent to the famous Big Sur Highway. Due to the steepness and narrowness of this road, riders should be of at least intermediate skill level and should feel physically comfortable with their motorcycles. How about a nice California chardonay and a fresh seafood dinner as your reward for good riding? You’ll slip off to sleep listening to the Pacific surf, just a stone’s through from your cottage on Monterrey Peninsula.

On Saturday, our final morning, we’ll head for the Bay Area, arguably America’s most “motorcycle friendly” region. Yes, we’ll negotiate a little traffic (this is a real world training tour!), for which we’ll be rewarded by the spectacular redwood forests of the Santa Cruz Mountains, where we’ll hone the advanced “road reading” techniques which we’ve popularized back East. We’ll finish up at 3:00 PM at one of America’s pre-eminent motorcycle hangouts--Alice’s Restaurant in Woodside.

*In miles, this is one of our longer day routes. However, about one third of the mileage is “open road” riding. Riders are expected to maintain the speed limit during these relatively straight stretches to ensure a timely arrival at our inn.
